With directives contained in the Circular signed by Jean Nkuété, Secretary General of the Central Committee, militants will gather to break bread while continuing to comply with protective measures against Covid-19.
On March 24, 2022, the CPDM will turn 37. A birthday worth celebrating, going by the challenges the Party has overcome and the progress it has made since its creation in Bamenda. The hopes expressed by Basic organ executives to see pump and pageantry return after a marked decline of the Corona virus pandemic have been quelled as the circular states that “the disease has not been definitively defeated and the Government has not yet completely lifted the measures prescribed to combat this Pandemic. We must therefore continue to be responsible on the occasion of the 37th Anniversary of the Party”.
The Party nonetheless has many recent things to celebrate and be thankful for amongst which is the remarkable mobilization of CPDM militants during the AFCON 2021 tournament. Having heeded to the call of their National President Paul Biya, reiterated by Jean Nkuété to show up in their numbers during matches, militants can boast of having accompanied the Head of state score an excellent mark regarding the organization of the football jamboree.
In a bid to make celebrations worthwhile, several preparatory meetings are already being held at various levels. One of such preps is a notice made public by the Secretary of the Italy Section, Frederick Ndang Nchaw stating that the anniversary will be celebrated in the city of Ravenna, a decision arrived at during the Section’s Conference in February. Cognizant of the looming threat of Covid-19 in the country, the note stressed that the commemoration would be held in strict compliance with barrier measures ordered by the Italian government. The note further read that militants would use the opportunity to renew their commitment to the Party and its illustrious leader, Paul Biya. Meanwhile, the executive that was only recently renewed in a process organized last year, is working to assert itself through various activities amongst which is the holding of meetings with executives of lower organs to set them on the right path. The Section’s executive is also making use of social media platforms to follow up the functioning of basic organs all in the bid to keep the flame of the party alive.
The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Let us mobilise more behind the National President, President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul BIYA, in order to ensure the specificity of our country in the relentless peace building, unity, solidarity and progress, in a Cameroon nation resolutely turned towards shared emergence”. Hopes remain high that the morose health context that hampered celebrations these past years is almost over and that militants will gather to blow the candles of the anniversary cakes in various localities.
