Celebrating FonAngwafo III : Jean Nkuete among Thousands at Mankon Palace

The Secretary General of the CPDM Jean Nkuété has represented the Head of State Paul Biya at the official kick off of a month celebration of the late vice president of the party Fon Solomon Angwafo III.

Jean Nkuété also decorated the late traditional ruler posthumously at the Mankon Palace on Thursday December 15, 2022 in Bamenda, North West region. The secretary general was among the thousands including the cream of CPDM North West elite and other authorities to throng the palace that day. The Thursday event flagged off a one month celebration dubbed Nukwi Ne Abubte essentially an official mourning ceremony of a departed Fon and the enthronement of a new one , according to the rituals of the Mankon people. The successor Fon Fru Asaah Angwafo IV who spent six months undergoing drilling and rituals was presented to the public on Thursday.
Speaking at the ceremony the City Mayor of Bamenda that is largely covered by the Mankon first class Fondom had beautiful words for the late monarch. He described him as a development oriented king.
“He worked so much for the development of this region and Cameroon at large. I am calling on everyone to embrace his peaceful ways so that peace can return to this region,” Paul Anchobong said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the CPDM Central Committee Permanent Regional Delegation for the North West, erstwhile Prime Minister Philemon Yang had invaluable advice for the people of Mankon. “I urge the people of Mankon to follow the footsteps of their father. Fon Angwafo III was a man who believed so much in unity and he was against secession,” Yang declared. Under the leadership of Yang, the North West CPDM elite made a significant financial contribution to foot bills of the celebration. For a month, dances, traditional rites and exhibitions shall spice the celebration up to January 15, 2023.
The late Fon left a towering legacy similar to his body mass. He ruled Mankon for 63 years until he drew his last breathe on May 21, 2022. An agro technician FonAngwafo embraced politics and stayed on as the national Vice President of the CPDM from 1990 till his death. He was also a parliamentarian from 1962-1988. He will be remembered as one of the monarchs that was able to blend his life as politician and traditional ruler.
